Cyprus Follow-Up Activities – Digital Storytelling for Social Change (DiGiSC)

Introduction

The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "Digital Storytelling for Social Change (DiGiSC)" (Agreement Number: 2025-1-CY01-KA152-YOU-000297583) was implemented from 27 March to 4 April 2026 in Pissouri, Cyprus, bringing together 35 young people and 7 group leaders from Cyprus, Lithuania, Armenia, North Macedonia, Hungary, Jordan, and Belarus. The project focused on empowering young people to use digital storytelling as a tool for addressing social issues such as discrimination, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and equality. Through workshops on storytelling, photography, video production, theatre, media literacy, and intercultural learning, participants developed creative skills while exploring ways to inspire positive social change.

Following the successful completion of the youth exchange, the Cypriot participants carried out a series of local dissemination and follow-up activities aimed at sharing the project's outcomes, raising awareness about social issues, and encouraging other young people to become active citizens through creative media and storytelling.

Follow-Up Activity 1

Dissemination Event at Lykeio Apostolou Louka Kolossiou

Date: 29 April 2026

Following the Cypriot participants' experience during the DigiSC Youth Exchange, the team organized a dissemination event for students at Lykeio Apostolou Louka Kolossiou. Approximately 30 students attended the session, where participants presented the aims and objectives of the project and shared their personal experiences from the youth exchange.

The participants explained the different workshops and learning activities they had experienced throughout the project, focusing particularly on storytelling techniques, media creation, and digital communication. They also introduced the audience to the process of creating the short films developed during the exchange, including brainstorming, scriptwriting, filming, editing, and presenting the final products.

Special emphasis was placed on how storytelling can be used as a powerful educational tool to address discrimination, challenge stereotypes, and promote social inclusion. Through examples from the project and discussions with students, participants demonstrated how personal stories and media content can influence attitudes, encourage empathy, and inspire positive social change.

The audience showed great interest in the practical aspects of filmmaking and digital storytelling, actively engaging in discussions and asking questions about the project and Erasmus+ opportunities.

Follow-Up Activity 2

Presentation during ACPELIA Annual General Electoral Assembly

The second follow-up activity took place during ACPELIA's Presentation of Recent Actions and Annual General Electoral Assembly. The event gathered participants, youth workers, volunteers, members of ACPELIA, representatives of partner organizations, and stakeholders from different regions of Cyprus.

The session was facilitated by Boghos Avetikian, one of the facilitators of the DigiSC Youth Exchange. During the presentation, he provided a comprehensive overview of the entire project, explaining the educational journey followed by participants from the first introductory activities to the final production of the mini-movies created during the exchange.

Particular attention was given to the learning methodology used throughout the project and how participants progressively developed skills in storytelling, teamwork, digital media production, communication, critical thinking, and intercultural cooperation. The audience also had the opportunity to watch selected mini-movies produced during the youth exchange and discuss the social themes explored by participants.

The presentation highlighted the positive impact of digital storytelling as an educational tool and encouraged youth organizations to explore similar creative approaches in their own local activities and projects.

The audience highly appreciated the creativity demonstrated by participants and expressed strong interest in the educational methods and outcomes achieved through the project.

I really enjoyed taking part in the Erasmus+ project. During the week, we took part in many workshops and activities, so there was always something interesting to do. We worked in teams with participants from different countries, shared ideas, communicated, and learned from each other. We also created a mini-film, which was a fun and creative experience. The energizers were one of my favourite parts of the programme because they helped keep everyone active and motivated. Participants came from countries such as Hungary, North Macedonia, Armenia, and Lithuania. What I enjoyed the most was the cultural night, where each country presented its culture, traditions, food, and other interesting aspects of daily life. It was a very enjoyable experience where I met many new people, learned about different cultures, made new friends, and created unforgettable memories.

Summary

The follow-up activities implemented in Cyprus successfully extended the impact of the Digital Storytelling for Social Change (DiGiSC) Youth Exchange beyond the mobility itself. Through school-based dissemination events, presentations to youth workers and stakeholders, online campaigns, videos, and participant testimonials, the project outcomes reached a significantly wider audience. Participants became ambassadors of the project, sharing both the knowledge and the values gained during the exchange. The activities demonstrated how digital storytelling can be an effective tool for promoting social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, empathy, and active citizenship while encouraging more young people to engage in Erasmus+ opportunities and social change initiatives.
